Life as a Stanford PhD graduate might not be a bed of roses after all

I think it safe to say that many people think having a PhD, especially one that comes from a prestigious university like Stanford University, is a safe bet for a cushy job somewhere. My impression is that is in a society that values qualification as much as Singapore, he will be in high demand. Unfortunately, that might not be the reality.

Read the adventures of Singapore's most qualified taxi driver over here!

I have a few questions in mind.

1. This guy has a PhD and worked as a researcher at Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology (IMCB). I thought life science is one of the growth industries in Singapore and the government are sending waves after waves of students overseas on scholarships to study in this area and come back to do research. So why in the world is this guy not able to find an academic/research job?

2. Is getting a PhD worth the time and money?

3. Does driving a taxi bring greater satisfaction that doing research in a lab?
